Keith Abney’s
painting subjects include cityscapes, still life and abstracts,
and this is his second show at HoFP Gallery.
Originally from Ringgold, Georgia, a small town
where his grandfather was a well-known scenic artist, Keith was
always interested in the arts.
After attending
school at the University of
Tennessee, Keith lived in Miami. In
the early 1990’s he sold large paintings in local galleries and
at outdoor venues in Florida. Keith later moved to New York and
painted for several galleries, but after a couple of years
returned to be closer to “home.” He currently resides in Atlanta
where he paints in his own studio.
Keith’s still life and architectural images
utilize a palette rich in color and texture, and an inner light
seems to emanate from deep within his paintings. This richness
is a result of his application technique, with each painting
evolving in layers. First he roughs in the image with pencil; he
then paints the initial layer using both oil and acrylic paints;
next he may apply a layer of varnish or polyurethane. This
process is repeated until the painting “comes alive.” He then
finishes the painting just as he started it, with pencil detail.
Lee Breuer’s paintings use broad layers of
vibrant color to evoke a sense of movement, time and place. A
native of Georgia, Lee is a graduate of The Citadel and attended
art school in Atlanta prior to moving to Columbia, SC in
1992. This is his first show at HoFP Gallery.
Lee’s paintings are primarily in the style of
“chromatic impressionism” introduced by such composers as
Debussey and Grieg, and widely eclectic musical influences –
from the sounds of the Southern Blues and Jazz to the more
modern Christian music of Third Day and Sonic Flood
– propel his brushstrokes on the canvas. From the swaying of the
Carolina Palmettos to the undulating wake of a shrimp boat to
the vibrations of the cello, Lee’s work is imbued with a feeling
of fluidity and motion. |
